2. Deze gegevens zijn gebaseerd op interviews
die Van der Helm tijdens zijn reis door Brazilië
hield.
3. Tot voor het midden van de vorige eeuw wer
den veel negerslaven geïmporteerd. Daarnaast
trokken in de vorige eeuw Zeeuwen, Pomme-
ranen, Italianen en andere bevolkingsgroepen
naar Brazilië.

2.2. De overtocht

2.3. In dienst van de grootgrondbezitters 1858-

1De verschuiving van de koffiegrens betekende
voor Espirito Santo dat ze een groot deel van
de overheidsbemoeienis verloren.
2. De provincie Espirito Santo stond bekend om
zijn inferieure koffiekwaliteiten.
3. De slavenhandel werd midden vorige eeuw in
Brazilië afgeschaft, de slavernij duurde welis
waar nog tot 1 888.
2.5. Van zelfstandige boer tot dee/bouwer 1930-
1980

soort werktuigen als hun voorouders.

Zo'n sociale ontmoetingsplaats waar veel in

schakel in de roddelketens waar de vendista
ook deel van uitmaakt. Veel informatie wordt

van boeren erin geslaagd een coöperatie op te
